Stockholm Castle

Stockholm Palace, also known as Kungliga Slottet, is an impressive baroque building in the heart of the historic city centre Gamla Stan. It serves as the official residence of the Swedish king and houses more than 600 rooms over an area of 42,000 square metres.

Built between 1697 and 1760, the castle offers visitors the opportunity to view magnificent rooms, a splendid castle chapel and several high-calibre museums. A particular highlight is the daily changing of the guard in the outer courtyard, which is known for its historical splendour.

With its rich history, impressive architecture and cultural significance, Stockholm Castle is undoubtedly one of the biggest tourist attractions in the Swedish capital.

Storkyrkan (Stockholm Cathedral)

The Storkyrkan, also known as Stockholm Cathedral, is one of Stockholm's most important sights. It is located in the heart of the old town centre Gamla Stan and is an impressive example of Nordic brick Gothic architecture.

Founded in the 13th century, the church was rebuilt in its current form in the 15th century and has since been the venue for numerous royal ceremonies such as coronations and weddings.

Visitors can admire impressive works of art such as the sculpture of St George with the dragon and the magnificent silver altar. The Storkyrkan is open all year round.

SkyView

SkyView in Stockholm offers a unique opportunity to get a bird's eye view of the city. The attraction is located on the Avicii Arena, one of the city's most famous landmarks and the largest spherical building in Europe.

Visitors travel in glass gondolas along the outer shell of the sphere to the top, which is 130 metres above sea level. From there, there is a breathtaking 360-degree view over Stockholm. The ride lasts around 25 minutes and begins with a short video introduction about the history of the globe.

Nobel Museum in Stockholm

The Nobel Museum in Stockholm is a fascinating destination for anyone interested in the history and significance of the Nobel Prize. It is located in the historic Börshuset on Stortorget in the historic centre of Gamla Stan and offers an insight into the life of Alfred Nobel and the achievements of Nobel Prize winners since 1901.

Visitors can visit permanent exhibitions and special exhibitions about famous prize winners such as Marie Curie and Nelson Mandela. In addition to the exhibitions, the museum offers guided tours, a bistro and a museum shop with interesting souvenirs.

Skansen Open-Air Museum

The Skansen open-air museum in Stockholm is a unique experience that takes visitors on a journey through Swedish history and culture. The museum is located on the picturesque Djurgården peninsula and comprises more than 150 historic buildings, including farms, workshops and even a craftsmen's quarter. As well as the opportunity to experience traditional Swedish crafts up close, Skansen also has an integrated animal park with Nordic wild animals.

Visitors can also take part in numerous events, such as the popular midsummer festivals or the Christmas market in December. Skansen is a must-see for anyone visiting Stockholm who is interested in history, culture and nature.

Vasa Museum

The Vasa Museum in Stockholm is one of the most famous and most visited museums in Scandinavia. It is located on the island of Djurgården and houses the almost completely preserved warship Vasa, which sank off Stockholm on its maiden voyage in 1628.

Visitors can see the ship up close and be impressed by the impressive wood carvings and 64 cannons. The exhibition offers an insight into the history of the ship and the maritime culture of the time.

The Strømma hop-on hop-off buses in Stockholm offer a convenient way to explore the city. You can travel unlimited during the validity period of the Stockholm Passes and hop on and off at numerous stops throughout Stockholm.

You can choose between the green hop-on hop-off buses and the red City Sightseein buses. During the journey, you will receive information in various languages about the history, culture and architecture of the city via headphones.

Stockholm boat tour

The Stockholm Card offers a range of boat tours that allow you to explore the Swedish capital from the water. The "Boat trip under the bridges" takes you under 15 bridges and offers a unique view of the city during the two-hour trip. The "Royal Canal Tour" circles the island of Djurgården and passes important sights such as the Vasa Museum.

For history buffs, we recommend the boat tour to Drottningholm Palace. The "Great Archipelago Tour to Gustavsberg" and the "Boat Trip to Vaxholm" offer insights into Stockholm's picturesque archipelago landscape. In the winter months, visitors can take part in the "Stockholm Winter Boat Tour", which offers a frosty but enchanting perspective of the city.

Drottningholm Palace

Drottningholm Palace is located around 15 kilometres west of Stockholm and is an impressive example of Baroque architecture. It was built in the 16th century according to plans by Nicodemus Tessin the Elder and today serves as the permanent residence of the Swedish royal couple.

Visitors can tour the magnificent halls, the baroque garden and the exotic Chinese pavilion. The castle is open all year round. A popular option is to travel by boat from Stockholm, which offers a picturesque view of the surrounding area.

Viking Museum

The Viking Museum in Stockholm offers visitors a fascinating journey back to the Viking Age. It is located on the island of Djurgården, close to the Vasa Museum and the Gröna Lund amusement park. The museum offers an interactive exhibition in which historical artefacts and reconstructions shed light on the life of the Vikings.

One highlight is the dramatised story "Ragnfrid's Saga", an 11-minute journey through the Viking Age that takes visitors on an exciting adventure.
