Who is the Stockholm Card worth it for?
The Stockholm Card is worthwhile as soon as you visit three to four attractions per day. At this rate, you will be cheaper in almost every travel profile than with individual tickets - usually 15 to 50 per cent. The longer you stay in Stockholm, the greater the leverage: The 5-day all-inclusive pass costs the equivalent of around 400 SEK per day, the 1-day pass, on the other hand 949 SEK. Longer stays therefore pay off noticeably more per day.
Typical travel profiles for whom the Stockholm Card is worthwhile:
- First-time visitors who want to see the classic must-do's: Vasa Museum, the Palace, Skansen, a boat tour, Hop-on Hop-off bus.
- City break travellers with stays of 2 to 5 days who want to decide spontaneously what to visit next.
- Families with children: Skansen, Gröna Lund, the Vasa Museum and the Viking Museum are all included, with reduced prices for children aged 6 to 15.
- For cruise day guests and day tourists with a clear plan, the cheaper Essentials Pass is usually the better choice.
- 25 different museums are included, from the National Museum to the Strindberg Museum.
The Stockholm Card is less suitable if you only plan to visit a single attraction or will mainly be using public transport (metro, bus and tram are not included). The ABBA Museum is also not part of the Stockholm Card.
If you still want to visit the ABBA Museum, you can find an official combined ticket at Tiqets - or book an ABBA single ticket separately. We have put together both options with travel information, insider tips and FAQs on a separate page.

What you specifically save
Three typical Stockholm trips — with clearly itemised itineraries and understandable breakdowns of costs. All individual tickets are adult prices from the official tariffs.
Cruise stop · 1 day · 3 highlights
Our recommendation: Essentials Pass
Arrival in Stockholm by cruise ship, with a full day to spare. You want to see the top highlights without getting stressed. Selection using a mandatory choice rule: Vasa Museum (top highlight) plus 2 more from the 12 essential options.
Vasa Museum (Compulsory Choice Top-3).
Royal Djurgården Boat Trip (1 Hour).
ICEBAR Stockholm before ship departure.
With only three attractions, the All-Inclusive Pass isn't worth it here — it would be more expensive than the Essentials Pass.
City break · 3 days · 8 stops
Our Recommendation: 3-Day All-Inclusive Pass
A classic three-day Stockholm trip, approximately 2 to 3 attractions per day, including a boat tour and hop-on hop-off.
Royal Palace Stockholm, Fotografiska, Boat Tour Highlights (2h15).
Vasa Museum, Skansen, Hop-on Hop-off Bus.
Boat trip to Drottningholm Palace and back, palace and park.
With the All-Inclusive Pass, you can spontaneously add more attractions - the savings increase accordingly.
Family · 5 days · relaxed pace
Our recommendation: 5-day All-Inclusive Pass
A family of 2 adults and 2 children aged between 6 and 15 is spending 5 days in Stockholm, visiting approximately 2 attractions per day.
Vasa Museum, Skansen, Gröna Lund, Viking Museum, The Royal Palace of Stockholm, Drottningholm boat tour, Drottningholm Palace, Hop-on Hop-off Bus, SkyView, Swedish Fika.
Children under 6 usually do not need their own Stockholm Card. Child prices vary by attraction.

No public transport included
The Metro, bus and tram are not included in the Stockholm Card. However, the Hop-on-Hop-off bus and boat from Strømma are included and cover the main tourist routes.
-
The ABBA Museum is not included.
Both Stockholm Card variants do not include the ABBA Museum. There are two options for ABBA fans: an official combination ticket of Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass plus ABBA Museum at Tiqets, or the ABBA single ticket separately for booking the Stockholm Card at Go City.

Book boat trips at Strømma Kiosk
Most boat trips need to be booked on the spot in the morning at the Strømma jetty. Arrive early, especially in the summer.
How to get the most out of your Stockholm Card
The Stockholm Card is particularly worthwhile if you plan your day cleverly. Six tips from personal experience that aren't included in any official description.
Morning start
Many museums in Stockholm close at 4 or 5 pm. If you activate your 1-day pass after lunch, you are giving away half a day. This day still ends at midnight.
Book boat tours in advance
The hop-on-hop-off boat, Drottningholm tour and archipelago tours depart from the Strömma jetty at Strömkajen. In summer, places go quickly. It's best to head there on your first day and book for the following days.
Solving the public transport question smartly
Metro, bus and tram are not included in the Stockholm Card. However, if you use the hop-on hop-off bus and boat, you can get to all tourist destinations - an extra SL day pass is usually not required.
Family Day on Djurgården
Skansen and Gröna Lund are a five-minute walk from each other on the island of Djurgården. A full day is enough for both. Vasa can be a third stop if the children have the stamina.
A trip to the museum in the rain
Stockholm has 25 museums among the Stockholm Card attractions - Vasa, Fotografiska, National Museum, Nobel Prize Museum, Sprit Museum, Strindberg Museum and Viking Museum all go in bad weather.
Better one day more
Those wavering between 3 and 4 days all-inclusive: the extra 250 SEK per adult is often covered by a single additional attraction. Better to have a buffer than stress.
Over 10 boat trips included
- Royal Canal Tour, Djurgården Boat Tour and Hop-on Hop-off Boat
- Archipelago tours to Vaxholm, Fjäderholmarna and Artipelag
- Boat tour to Drottningholm Palace and Birka Viking Town
- Most tours run seasonally from April to October
Frequently Asked Questions about the Stockholm Card
The five most common questions we hear before buying.
Is the Stockholm Card worth it?
In most cases, yes, provided you visit at least two to three paid attractions per day. With the All-Inclusive Pass, the value increases with each additional attraction, while with the Essentials Pass, you pay a fixed price for three highlights with a mandatory choice rule (1 from Vasa, Castle or Skansen plus 2 others). Which pass is better for you depends primarily on the duration of your stay and how intensive your sightseeing is.
We have listed three typical travel profiles with specific invoices – cruise stop, city break, and family holiday.
What counts as one day on the All-Inclusive Pass?
Once you scan the card at the first attraction, Day 1 begins — and it ends at midnight, regardless of when you started. So if you activate the card at 5 p.m., you'll only have a few hours left on Day 1. Our tip: start your sightseeing day in the morning, ideally at the first attraction that opens.
Is public transport included?
No, the Metro, bus and tram are not included in the Stockholm Card. However, the All-Inclusive Pass includes the hop-on-hop-off bus and the hop-on-hop-off boat from Strømma — both cover the main tourist routes and replace classic public transport for many visitors. Those who travel more should also purchase an SL day ticket.
No, the ABBA Museum is not included in the Stockholm Pass.
No, the ABBA Museum is not included in either the All-Inclusive Pass or the Essentials Pass. There are two options for ABBA fans: an official combination ticket of Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass plus ABBA Museum at Tiqets - or the ABBA single ticket separately when booking the Stockholm Card. We have compiled both options with travel information, insider tips and FAQs on a separate page.
How do I activate the Stockholm Card?
After purchasing, you will receive an email (up to a 2-hour delay possible) with the QR code for the Go-City app. The pass will be activated automatically upon the first scan at an attraction. You can then hold onto it for up to 12 months – and cancel for free within 90 days, as long as it hasn't been activated.
